I would propose the proper way to handle missing data would be to have a popup that asks to select a location of the data, rather than crashing or failing...

im not sure im 100% on board with this, as you will likely end up with npc's that all are piled up on the map edge... maby coax the ai...

Seems to be good on windows, couldn't test linux/osx, also not sure debug builds are the way to go, at least on windows there are missing dll's you need to...
