+1 I've created #31 to add some tutorials from the Service Mesh area.

Why is containerPort required for server?

I think this is related to istio/istio#6259. The discrepancy in the behavior could be due to how the filter configuration logic is implemented in Istio itself.

Documentation: Document the various config parameters and their use case

This is documented in some detail at https://github.com/vmware/wavefront-adapter-for-istio/tree/master/install/wavefront#configuration-parameters. It'd be great to add more details, and maybe an example to make it more clear.

Histograms need to be clear after x seconds

This seems to be an implementation issue as mentioned in rcrowley/go-metrics#150.
