So in other words, you get to download to permanent shared storage, but also leverage the existing temp_iagl folder to satisfy the local filesystem requirements of MAME and RetroArch.

I don't use mpv, but if it works as expected in VLC, then I suspect the issue lies within mpv, not mlbv.
FWIW, I used mlbv successfully on Thursday (Astros-Rays game 5), Akamai CDN too (akc). Haven't tried it since.
Also, eracknaphobia's Kodi addon has a CDN option in the settings, although I've never used that particular feature. https://github.com/eracknaphobia/plugin.video.mlbtv
mlbv currently doesn't support radio streams. Usually you can work around it by selecting a low-resolution video stream, and just play one of the alternate audio tracks. But that's wasteful...
