It wasn't the client, but one of my mail servers (anonaddy) started treating attachments differently. I used a new address that skips that server and images are showing up inline...
I wonder if it would be useful to encrypt (certain) text fields and leave date fields sortable. Then features like #255 / #3178 would still work.
