Could the issue be due to Safari's different handling of position: absolute? https://github.com/lobsters/lobsters/blob/9d08797d1fccf40ef237edbecd85350346faa0de/app/assets/stylesheets/application.css#L1648 If you delete it, it should appear.

Times change, but they also come back around.
