overlay was indeed the problem. kinda makes me curious as to why having it disabled would cause issues with rendering/frame rates
had the same issue, not present when building manually. this is likely a problem with the package build rather than the repo itself.
this issue was fixed in the 64bit update. i previously had the same problem, and now it works as expected.
