I just use that command and replace the "Empty commit" part with "co-authored...." otherwise I don't know how to do it if I have no changes in the files.

 I did, but it seems N64Recomp is not yet ready for it because it doesn't support overlapping VRAM addresses for overlays.

Yes, that is correct. This concerns N64 Recomp projects as a whole, developers are working on it right now and it will be added soon.
