Unfortunately no, it does not. But, I discovered that if I start casting, if I adjust the volume from the casting menu  Then my Google Home reacts to volume...
I have to update this issue: I've somehow made Chromecast working but with absolutely no control on playback. Casting on Google Home is broken.
I agree with @grantsrosen I consider this a pretty basic feature for a launcher, and I really think it should be considered for Niagara. Though @8bitPit's view is actually interesting....

Uninstall 3.0 first and then disable auto updates from play store
Seems like Google is blocking apps again. Have you actually tried method of issue #116?
I think Google is taking some serious actions to block my method too
