This occurs on most players including MPC-BE and regular MPV. A bug should be opened with discord or MPV themselves.
To be honest this is an issue with Discord, not the players.
Yeah I'm pretty sure that they have some special code for VLC that breaks other players.

It's likely due to the AV1 profile, I'll have to make a new release without AV1 turned on for MacOS.
This should be fixed as of the latest commit, I removed AV1 support due to a number of issues.
