This package is not really about what you are asking. You may want to checkout [py3-notifier](https://github.com/sencer/py3-notifier) which works with py3status.
Hi, Did you try starting `i3-notifier` with `--debug` flag? This will log stuff to `/tmp/i3-notifier.log`, might be helpful.
You can add more debugging. Can you share the log file you get? I wonder what happens before the crash.
I don't think you can as is. Should be easy to modify `bin/i3-notifier` though.
Did you check the config file under the example folder? Essentially you should have a `$HOME/.config/i3/i3_notifier_config.py` that contains `theme = "widget"` line.

I also tried downgrading `requests` to `2.9.1`, but it didn't work.
Same here on a iMac Late 2012 with macOS Catalina. I think MVMR no longer exists. I suspect Target Display Mode does not work anymore with macOS Catalina.
