@tensor-programming wrote and tested a pure rust implementation in the [stronghold.rs repo](https://github.com/iotaledger/stronghold.rs/blob/dev/engine/crypto), they can be used as a clean room implementation to compare the chosen implementation against.

Does this interest anyone other than me? I use it to let [UptimeRobot](https://uptimerobot.com/) monitor my own hosting of echoip, since their free plan only allows HEAD requests.
