@perezd we have some BUILD files internally that we want to use/transform to the opensource BUILD files that we would want to have, rather than maintaining two sets of build...

A PR for something like this won't be so helpful because we already have BUILD files internally. Having two sets is no better (and arguably worse) than just sticking with...

What about looping `subrefs()` for each of `split_spanning_ref()`? Or just flattening the array at the top level?

Or perhaps a way to specify a list of which commentaries to select instead of selecting all of them, in case the list is quiet large?
