It appears that, at least for me on my devices, that this issue has been fixed with one or more of the multiple updates since I first noticed the problem.
This would be a nice help for me, and a great help for another user I am aquainted with through another app. Thank you in advance.

This is not necessary. Get onto F-Droid, and install the full version of Lightning from there. Tabs are unlimited, as are bookmarks.
