This fixed the problem for me: sed -i s/SSL_library_init/OPENSSL_init_ssl/ configure.ac configure
I was looking into this but while learning what [iotaproxy](https://github.com/TimSamshuijzen/iotaproxy) does I just came to the realization that it would be easier to just use iotaproxy.
