Yes, [[+this.placeholders]] is much more consistent with our experience and expectations. I'll write the necessary changes and try my luck with a PR.
I wonder how we could "protect" "this." from being used by other extensions. Is anyone aware of such a placeholder?
Update. After I have clicked Main Menu -> Language -> German (I totally missed that setting before) the page reloaded with the right language settings. Afte logging out and back...

Update: It seem that changes to publishedby are overwritten by https://github.com/modxcms/revolution/blob/14a60cc7d68c7b833cb97dd4c895dd77ccc12fd6/core/model/modx/processors/resource/update.class.php. Got to fix that too.
