As an alternative, you might want to use condition=... in your itemgroups. In that way, depending on $(Configuration) you can use referenced packages or project references easily with one csproj...
Great change! SiteMigration plugin is quite slow with large websites and creates a new idsite for every date-from/date-to range being uploaded. This would allow multiple uploads to run in parallel.

We always use them for documented reasons. It makes it harder to get started with the package. I have created an alternative myself; was easier than making it work.
Sorry, typo, "documented" or known reasons. Work and costs can be painful. But note that error is on strong-naming, not on signing.
