Same issue with a different, also on a laptop with a 940MX. Appears to be an issue with Wayland. Might be device driver errata, coincidence is to great to discount...
Think for me it was fragmenting because disk was too full My mistake for sure, but FWIW iso2opl didn't inform me of this error before exiting Good advice re: fragmenting....
