seeing the same issue, also launching a dialog on a fragment
try adding testOptions { animationsDisabled true } in your build.gradle, but be aware that this w**ill only have an effect** when running tests from the command line.
updated. i checked on an ldpi emulator, seems to work fine with the xxhdpi 9patch. set alpha to 75 on the shadow. feel free to pick a different alpha.

escobar5, i have submitted a pull request that - might - solve the issue for you. it will depend how "rounded" your view is... but at least with slightly rounded...
