I can confirm that the workaround which steven-alday shared works for me.
I do utilize the horizontal space a lot, and I'm probably not the only one, so 2D bookmarks as mentioned by @benjamin051000 would have a much greater impact for me...
I also experience the issue that the tab order does not persist a restart
