What is the easiest way to edit it for smaller dots? Do I need a font editor?

What do you mean it is expected? Currently there are no dots for spaces but empty space only. In password type inputs there is a dot when hitting space.

Finally I edited your font with FontForge, copied a single char, then selected all, pasted, then right-click and transform, then scale (X = 30%, Y= 30%), apply, generate fonts. Thanks...
