`uv pip install --group` fails where `pip install --group` succeeds

It seems that the `uv pip compile` command cannot be used to lock dependencies if the `[project]` table is missing.

how to change default python version in uv?

I set the `UV_PYTHON` environment variable to `3.12` and uv now defaults to Python 3.12.
