That approach assumes you wrote or control the configmap and it isn't in a chart referenced via requirements. Doesn't really help my use case though it may help others here....
@chulkilee can you just use the standard value passing mechanism for your use case, i.e. https://helm.sh/docs/chart_template_guide/subcharts_and_globals/#overriding-values-from-a-parent-chart for passing values to subcharts? This works in all versions of helm.
