.xscreensaver keeps getting over written and the appletv option is greyed out in xscreensaver-demo

As described in the title...

.xscreensaver keeps getting over written and the appletv option is greyed out in xscreensaver-demo

when I try to do a preview anyway I get an error on screen that says it couldn't execute appletv2.
