I'd like to bump this. https://openapi-generator.tech/docs/generators/java says that java8 is the default. I get the same error without the workaround. Explicitly setting java8 (even if its the default) fixes it.

Just downgraded to python2.7 and used the older version of this lib and that works fine. So something not right with latest + python 3.9
