patch-package needs to look in the parent's node_modules when invoked on a dependency of another project

Random thought: I just stumbled upon [require.resolve](https://nodejs.org/dist/latest-v14.x/docs/api/modules.html#modules_require_resolve_request_options) and am wondering if it could be used to correctly obtain the patch target

actually install the version that we're saying we're installing

need some simple controls or at least documentation on how to spread the graph out so it's more readable

Short of a control, perhaps you could provide a parameter to specify the length of inter-junction vertices
