I had this same problem using the mangohud package from the Pop_OS repo. Adding the PPA and updating to that version fixed it for me.

I'm getting the same thing with the Steam VR beta 2.0.5, Pop OS 22.04, Steam client stable, Gnome/X11, Nvidia card with driver 535.113.01. I'm also using ALVR.

For me, this was a problem with `vrwebhelper` not being able to find some of its libraries. Running it manually against the default heavy runtime yielded this: ``` $ /home/user/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/common/SteamVR/bin/vrwebhelper/linux64/steam-runtime-heavy.sh...
Beta 1.27.2 fixed this for me on Pop OS 22.04.
@NintyS It works consistently. I'm using Gnome on X. I still get the extra uncloseable zombie window on every SteamVR launch, but it's an overall improvement.
UEVR absolutely works via Proton: https://www.reddit.com/r/virtualreality_linux/comments/18vxkc3/psa_praydogs_uevr_injector_can_work_on_linux_too/ I've tried half a dozen games with this method, and it seems to work just as well as the game running normally in Proton...
