These gates should be visibly marked so that the user knows that given highway with the gate is impassable.
The profiles should include at the bottom: - which parts of the route are part of color marked trails - which parts of the route are part of numbered roads...
- approximate length of the circuit, given the same starting/ending points - same selection criteria as for normal routes - lookup of n circuits that have the same starting/ending point...
Given the starting/ending points (either a circuit or a from-to route), find a path with maximum number of missing tags on tracks/paths (mtb:scale etc.).
I'd recommend using gray levels to express visibility tag in the path, from black (for visibility=excellent) to very light grey (visibility=none).
