@jjo93sa your tests on a clean registry mirror my experiences, but I'm also unable to determine whether it's issue with Reg or the registry itself.
I'm also seeing the same on Arch linux with both kind 0.13 and 0.14 with kernel `5.19.2-arch1-2`. My docker dir is xfs-backed if that matters. Logs are here [kind-logs.tar.gz](https://github.com/kubernetes-sigs/kind/files/9397672/kind-logs.tar.gz)

@tormath1 I'm afraid not, we were experiencing the issues on a platform of ours which is now EOL and so we aren't investing any more time into upgrade work
CI builds have been disabled.

just wanted to say thank you for this - the less pods running as root the better. looking forward to it getting merged :ok_hand:
i wouldn't expect any response to this, the repo is basically unmaintained.
