@scholzj - so, I should do these changes only in the _packaging/examples_ directory and leave _examples_ as is?
I've pushed the changes to the packaging dir. This guy had same issue as me: https://github.com/grafana-operator/grafana-operator/issues/75 It was solved on the operator ..probably that why it works for you.

Probably you don't have the scheme properly set.
Massdns got updated, output format for NDJSON. Easiest fix is to build massdns with code from commit 65331fb528755621650a0fbacff12102cfdcdde9
