Switching between Visual and Text modes feels a little jarring

Because the tabs change look and feel when switch modes the UX is kind of jarring.  

Should we hide the permalink display / editor?

I noticed that the permalink editor is no longer visible.  Is that intentional? I wonder how users will feel about removing it especially when editing pages.
