Having same issue. Not sure it its 100% related, but getting "E/libc: Access denied finding property "ro.vendor.config.hw_vowifi"" when enabling the message.setImage() line above. Disabling it will send a normal sms...
Just got hung up on this, glad to see this issue exists :)
