Maybe we should just have a parameter for "Protocol" and store (ftp, sftp, ftps,...) in there. How would this work for torrent? Or is torrent excluded from open-command anyways?

The proxy support is little broken as of now - But I do not assume that there (currently) is a chance of a merge anyways. I will keep developing that...
