I haven't messed with observers yet, but now that I am back, I will look into it as active development for v4.1
Do you mean the social (Facebook, Twitter, etc) logins? I can write up a walk through for you on that, it might take a few days.
I haven't forgotten about this, it has been a pretty hectic last month. I hope to get around to this by the end of this month.
