I do not think there should be a hard avoid for bridges. Even simple overpasses on US Interstate highways are tagged as bridges in OSM so any exclude bridges route...
Running valgrind on valhalla_run_route (valgrind --leak-check=full --show-leak-kinds=all ./valhalla_run_route ...) I see some protobuf references. Adding google::protobuf::ShutdownProtobufLibrary(); cleans up the valgrind run but a couple reachable blocks still show (checking further)....
