@Montago you can take a look at https://github.com/googlefonts/noto-emoji/issues/43#issuecomment-185927176 and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenType#colorfonts. TL;DR – there are different OpenType table flavors and AppleColorEmoji.ttf does not follow Microsoft's one. It would be still possible...
