You need to create a session cookie, so you reuse the session. Its like you log in from another browser. Look here https://github.com/instagrambot/instapy-cli/blob/master/examples/login-cookie-write-file.py
That sounds like a good approach. Is the sourcecode for the new version in any repo or branch available? I would like to try to contribute.
You can temporarily disable the restriction check in Options to place tiles whereever you want. Obviously that doesn't keep you then from placing actually impossible tiles

I definetly agree, that toggling would be really nice. It should be possible by creating a normal keybind in ncmpcpp, that triggers a shell script, which then kills or reactivates...
