I uninstalled and reinstalled and it crashed immediately after I logged in. At a glance, it seems like there is an exception thrown because category and/or parent id is nil....

It's not crashing for me any more, but now I am seeing multiple posts where there are only one... will collect more data and submit separate issue.

Reason was entirely on my side. I was creating a filesystem and overlaying it on vfs. Unfortunately I was using FAT filesystem and the tools I was using were case-insensitive...
