Currently the persistence mechanism uses the native endianness of the machine and is thus not portable across different architectures. Boost provides conversion functions: http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_60_0/libs/endian/doc/conversion.html
Standard types like size_t might only be present in the _std_ namespace
The method should accept a JSON string containing the entire configuration and override it both in memory and on disk
