I think it is related to [this function](https://github.com/ryuslash/git-auto-commit-mode/blob/a7b59acea622a737d23c783ce7d212fefb29f7e6/git-auto-commit-mode.el#L230), as it adds new files ONLY if they has been opened in a buffer. In my case images are downloaded with [org-download](https://github.com/abo-abo/org-download)...
