hey @centminmod just a quick update on this. created another brand new machine following the steps listed above and this is still an issue.
@centminmod i think i've figured it out. I should also mention that the problem persists even when I remove ElasticSearch itself from the equation by commenting out EP_HOST in wp-config.php

@BurlesonBrad - nope - it's not specific to any particular user/customer - the issue seems to span any given user.
