Sorry to revive an old post, but I run into the same issue and I more or less managed to make it work so I thought some people might want...
I have the same problem, the extension is not automatically added and I'd like this to be merged too. For now, I'm using @samangh branch. I did further improve this...
I can confirm this is working well (Win10/VisualStudio 2019). This PR should be merged.
