More than disappointing. It makes Extraterm a non-starter for many Linux users. This is basic X11 functionality.

Same behavior on Fedora 39 using flatpak or downloading the app from github releases.
Same here. Installed and tried to run the flatpak on Fedora 39.
For me the appimage works flawlessly.
Removing the.config/extraterm directory - No change still hangs without creating a window. extratermqt does work but mouse based copy is broken so it is a non-starter for me.

Thank you for the information. Fedora offers the option to install and use 3.11 side-by-side with 3.12 (or I can install it in the venv) so I will do that.
Forgot to mention - if I do not use the abbrev there is no error - this works without an error message **emacsclient -c -n .Xincludes/xterm**
