I've got the same problem with gradle 4.1.
It would be good to fix #327 and #100 before doing this one as d3.js typically works with SVG.
We want to do a more in-depth refresh of the JavaScript tutorials and changing `var` to `let` would be a start, thanks.
We discussed this a number of times in organiser meetings and I think we generally agree it would be a good thing to do, we just don't have the time...

Added Sketch and SVGOMG to the tools section in lesson 1. Added the two css-tricks articles to lesson 4.
FYI, it probably broke them again as the `latest` release doesn't seem to be available any longer so I temporarily hard-coded `0.9.1`.
