Are there still any functions missing tests? I've done some package development and am familiar with `testthat`.

@tintinweb not sure if the publishing script lives outside this repo (I couldn't find anything), but I'd be happy to put in the bones of something with GitHub Actions or...

That makes sense w.r.t. `pickle` just remembering the location of the module. I think some better documentation and error reporting would be helpful at a minimum. It would be nice...
