I encountered the same behavior using german dictionary.  
I'm using (shared) internal storage for maps and the same behavior occurred on my FairPhone 4 with Android 13.
Ok, I went back to Version 2024.03.05-4-FDroid and redownloaded the maps I had before. Trying to reproduce the problem right now. No "luck" so far.
I noticed the same problem with the nightly repo of LinkSheet: https://github.com/LinkSheet/nightly/releases. The app version is "master-<last-commit>-nightly". I could extract that from the asset/apk link, but not from the version.

I could get it to show the "not responding" popup once today, but couldn't reproduce it afterwards.
Confirmed reproducible now with recurring popups on Version 2024.03.05-4-FDroid. Will try current rc next.
