@QuantumBadger your suggestion for a workaround almost works. If the launch size of the window exceeds the current resolution the resizing doesn't seem to take effect.
I just updated my lights and I'm having the exact same issue. Do you know what you might have done which made it somehow resolve itself?
My issue stemmed from the fact that the mac-address changed for the lights after I updated them, so I was getting the same error but might be a slightly different...
