Same issue with VMware Workstation 
It got patched on Mutter 42.1 however the performance is bad since it's just a workaround for a bug on Nvidia drivers. https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/2341
Same problem on Arch Linux  hddtemp reports correct readings  smartctl  Kingston A400 firmware is updated to version SBFKB1H5

@salperinlea please remove xf86-video-intel package: `sudo pacman -R xf86-video-intel` Then switch to Nvidia mode again, thanks!

@slowpuke please check `/etc/modprobe.d/` for any file that's blacklisting the Nvidia kernel modules, thanks.
