I hit the same. I think its because of the way k8s mounts the config in pod. The mountpoint is owned root root and any files/folders under the mount disappear....

I came across this today. I followed your example and got this working. https://github.com/awalker125/testinfra-extension-poc/blob/master/tests/fixtures/kubectl_binary.py Its not exactly the same usecase but it does the job for me.
We used pip-system-certs to trust the os bundle which has custom CAs in. I dont fully understand why but since 2.32.0 we get what I think is the same issue....
