Did you consider replacing SDL_Rect with SDL_RectF, from SDL.2.0.10 ?
It works perfect with D3D11, you just need to build SDL from the sources, because the prebuilt libraries does not activate D3D11 by default @JayFoxRox @aggsol
SDL does support rendering floats on the current version 2.0.10 AFAIK
I was not able to successfully upgrade because deleting those bit shift operations seems to break the drawing of triangles :/
Metal would be a lot easier to implement than Vulkan + Moltenvk, and it is officially supported by one major platform.
