I've semi diagnosed the issue? setting XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP to something other than KDE, let's say GNOME or XFCE or even just setting it to something it wouldn't recognize would force it...

All that's happening inside Radiant is that the file dialog causes the entire program to segfault
